Pause Reps Bench Press
There are two main styles for bench press.
Pause reps bench press. What are pause reps. Rather than starting at your sticking point you bring the bar down through a full range of motion bring the bar down touch your chest press back up and pause a few inches off your chest. One dumbbell is held in an isometric contraction while the other completes a full range of motion. Instead try to pause for 3 to 5 seconds.
Merriam webster dictionary defines the word pause as a temporary stop a stop in the action. After all which one do you think is going to generate more muscle growth a set of five reps straight in the bench press with 250 lbs. Do you guys really think novices should be pausing their bench reps.
The final step is to do the exact same motion but receive it directly into a full squat position. Concentric pause press adding a pause a few inches off the chest on the way up is a fantastic and logical way to train your sticking point without resorting to a reduced range of motion.
